I am very proud to live in Barrie. I say this because of the recent sense of unity in regards to the HGS job fair. We all know that as a community we need good employment and these days so many communities are working hard to attract the same potential employers. Like any community, we have challenges with unemployment. So what did we do about it? Under the leadership of the Mayor’s office along with the economic development office of Barrie, there was a well-planned media blitz that few other cities could copy. I am not sure that other cities could connect as well as we did and the leadership was key in this. Mayor Jeff Lehman was on the radio doing interviews really promoting this job fair. There was print advertising, large signage in front of the South Shore Community Centre and items on Twitter and various websites.
Good for Jeff, good for the City of Barrie! And the numbers of people turning up to apply for one of the 500 potential jobs are impressive so far, according to what I have read. We should know more in the next six to eight weeks and I am looking forward to the results.
Pat yourself on the back Barrie!
