Substance abuse is something every parent dreads. We always hope that our children will Just Say No, as they have been instructed for so many years. There is a culture of hard drugs and alcohol in our high schools that kids get sucked into. It’s easy to access and easy to become addicted.
While there are programs for teens to get clean, previously there was an expectation that they would integrate back into high school. What else would they do? The problem was, there was a high likelihood to relapse in a public high school.
That is why Eileen Shewen founded the Quest Collegiate and Recovery Centre with two campuses to be opened in 2014. They will offer boarding and day school for 80 students and will focus on providing a safe, drug free environment to heal, learn and manage their addictions.
On Thursday November 28th, a Gala Fundraiser was held to raise money for the centres. John and Christie were in attendance and had a fantastic time. They discovered that for a Quest Centre to open in the Barrie area, they will need a building to be donated. If you are of the means to donate a building or know of anyone who is, please contact Eileen Schewen.
If you know of someone who could benefit from this program please refer them to their website for more information.
