So, it’s Friday, October 9th and I find myself getting ready for another Thanksgiving. I get the feeling that there are a lot of people out there who aren’t ready for this weekend though!
Well, it’s easy to see how that could happen. We’ve been bombarded with election campaign issues and, here in Barrie, our advance polls are open all through this weekend. The Toronto Blue Jays are in the playoffs, which is getting HUGE coverage. We don’t even seem ready to watch the Maple Leafs strap on the skates, and yet their season has begun. Kids have been back to school for a month now and pool owners have closed their pools.
Still, for some reason it just doesn’t feel like it should be Thanksgiving this weekend. Despite the pumpkins in the stores and the changing leaves, we are wondering where the time has gone.
My goal this weekend is to spend as much time as possible with my local family and with those who are traveling to Barrie to visit. Life is precious, friends and family are important and we need to slow down and embrace them.
From our families to yours, we wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving weekend.
