Walking for Youth Haven

December 30, 2015

On February 20, 2016, John Weber and I will be walking 5 KM in support of Youth Haven Barrie, in an event called Coldest Night Of The Year.

Coldest Night Logo (Badge) Color Pantones - AICC

John and I are each hoping to raise a minimum of $200, and for every donation of $20 or higher there is a tax receipt.  Why not donate today and get another tax break for 2015!

This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to join together and make a difference.  This even is held all across Canada, with participants in Newfoundland and Yellowknife, Vancouver and Barrie.  Last year there were 240 walkers locally and over $250,000 was raised.  Wouldn’t it be great to surpass that total this year?  But wait, what if you don’t know what Youth Haven does?  [Read more…]

Remembrance Day

November 9, 2015

Remembrance Day is quickly approaching and I find myself remembering where I was exactly one year ago.  vimy

In Nov, 2014, my husband and I took a once-in-a-lifetime trip to France.  We picked the dates of the trip for a variety of reasons, but one of the benefits was that it meant we would be there over November 11th.  We were staying in the South of France in Menton, where our oldest daughter was going to school for the year.  Part of our plans were to pop up to Paris to visit some old friends, and we timed this for Nov 11 & 12.  We were very aware of the significance of where we were going to be on a day that is very important to us.  Our friends had Nov 11th off, since it is a holiday in France, so we spent the day touring around some well known and not so well known areas of Paris.  We wore our Canadian poppies proudly, and we pleased to be able to stop and watch a Remembrance Day parade go by at one point.

Recycling Batteries

October 21, 2015

I saw a small article this morning in the on-line Advance that Barrie residents will be given an easy way to recycle batteries soon.  Recycling-batteries

We will be receiving special bags in the next week or so that we can collect all our our batteries.  According to the article, we can place AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9 Volt and little button batteries in the bag and leave it by your other bins during regular curbside waste and recycling collection the week of Nov 2-6.

I think this is a great way to do our part and keep dangerous batteries out of landfill sites.  For more information, you can go to www.barrie.ca/CurbsideCollection, or call 705-739-4219.  Happy recycling!

September 23, 2015

This is an event that I think is a great idea.  Buy a bowl for just $25 and sample local soups.  Oh, and in doing so bowlsforbedsyou are helping Barrie’s homeless!

Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

September 15, 2015

Saturday, September 19, 2015, Royal LePage First Contact Realty, Brokerage is the Presenting Sponsor for Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, the international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.  As in previous years, all funds raised will go directly to support the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie. 11891201_977391735650448_5037548825093454566_n

And, as in previous years, there will be a number of Royal LePage Sales Representatives taking part, strapping on the 6 inch heels and strutting their stuff along Barrie’s waterfront!  This year’s team currently consists of Brendan Clemmens, Chris Hart, Frank Montagnese, James Myers, and John Weber. There is still lots of time to sponsor one of these awesome guys: just visit the sponsor page for Royal LePage and pick your participant to sponsor. You can try this link…  http://barrieshelter.akaraisin.com/pledge/Team/Home.aspx?seid=10543&mid=10&tid=95778.   Or google Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Barrie, and the page should come up for you. walkamileinhershoes

There’s also still time to register and participate, and we’d love to see you there.  Stay tuned for pictures of the big day coming next week!  Thanks for your support.
